I blend struggles and humor, creating my own form of magical realism that mixes personal experiences and society’s corset of rules and roles into quiet dramas that also serve as a form of healing. My work deals with issues of care, gender, and power dynamics. On the canvas, the domestic and the absurd coexist, revealing the surreal nature of traditions and everyday life. Acknowledging the political potential of feminist autobiography, I see vulnerability as a source of strength and recognize emotions as an important language.
Through an intuitive process, bodies merge with objects, leak, and transform: eggs with long hair, sweaty vegetables, eerie animals, separate body parts being enlarged or multiplying. A plate of spaghetti with my grandmother’s face is not just a plate of spaghetti, but a comment on care work. A chicken among eggs with man’s faces questions reproduction, patriarchy, and expectations.
